We used to go in the Spring along the railroad tracks and pick it. When it would grow high in the fall, the trains would grab the seeds and spread them up and down the tracks. So, in a couple of years, the newly spread seeds would have bulbed up and produced their own asparagus. I miss that...
That's really a cool memory! And a great spot for asparagus! It takes a few years to get a patch viable, too.
Yup, that's why they say you should only plant it where you intend to stay.
